PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

The Community Protection Promoter (hygiene promoter) is responsible to lead all activities related to the implementation of hygiene promotion, awareness & sensitization campaigns on health and hygiene promotion to the climate induced displaced population in Kismayu & Dhobley. The hygiene promoter will work closely with other project staff to ensure the safety and wellbeing of persons of concern at community level in project target locations. The position is a community based position and the holder is expected to have unlimited interaction and access to persons of concern in project targeted locations.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct awareness and sensitization campaigns on health, WASH and support the implementation of WASH activities project target locations (IDP camps, schools & CBRC facility)
  • Regularly conduct WASH need assessments & service mapping for the displaced communities in project target locations.
  • Registration of new households affected by displacement caused by drought/ other natural disasters.
  • Distribution of WASH kits to the displaced communities.
  • Distribution of tarpaulins, provide household items including blankets, solar lanterns, cooking utensils.
  • Distribution of hygiene kits and dignity kits to vulnerable IDPs, Returnees & Host communities.
  • Conduct capacity building on menstrual hygiene to adolescent girls in schools.
  • Provide accurate information and dissemination of data, distribute reports on Hygiene supplies and NFIs to the supervisor
  • Support school health clubs and promote public health and sanitation amongst learners.
  • Assist with any other related activities as deemed necessary by the line manager.

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Certificate/Diploma in public health/ WASH related field.
  • 1 years of experience in implementing health and hygiene projects in humanitarian context.
  • An impeccable professional standard of ethics as well as the willingness and ability to implement accountability activities within the LWF World Service essential.
  • The candidate should be well versed with the local context.

COMPETENCIES

  • Excellent computer skills in word processing, spreadsheets, use of internet and email
  • Excellent analytical, facilitation and documentation experience with humanitarian programmes.
  • Excellent communication skills including influencing negotiation and pragmatism.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; the ability to liaise with a variety of people successfully and effectively in a multicultural set up.
  • Ability to work independently with proven hands-on expertise in case management, gender sensitivity, child protection and safeguarding.
  • Fluent in written and spoken English and Somalia.
