Overview of position |
Under the overall supervision & management of the Program Officer (Monitoring, Evaluation & Communications) & the direct supervision of the National Program Officer (Monitoring & Evaluation), the Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) and Communications Intern will be responsible for assisting the M&E team within community stabilization program as well as providing support in communication & visibility related aspects. |
Role objectives |
- Assist in the documentation of accurate & concise success stories / human interest stories & ensure that lessons learned from project evaluations are appropriately recorded & shared with program teams on time.
- Assist in the coordination of 3rd party vendors at project sites & production of communication materials for online & offline products, including photography of project deliverables, short videos, documentation & project visibility items.
- Assist in conducting M&E assessments including, baseline, mid term & endline surveys by supporting casual enumerators in the field for data collection through household surveys, Key Informant Interviews (KIIs) & Focus Group Discussion (FGDs), Human Interest Stories (HIS) in timely manner.
- Interface with Enumerators & Enumerator Team Leaders to ensure effective communication during the data collection.
- Assist in continuously monitoring project implementation progress, outcomes, best practices, challenges & lessons learned & collecting relevant information for report writing.
- Maintain proper records for M&E equipment including but not limited to smart phones for data collection & their accessories, cameras & other electronic devices for monitoring & documentation.
- Assist in trainings & orientation sessions for casual enumerators to ensure adherence to the code of conduct & child safeguarding & protection policies.
- Provide administrative assistance to the M&E team during the identification & hiring of casual enumerators by compiling the required HR documents from different locations.
- Assist processing payments for Casual Enumerators, undertake duty travels as needed & perform any other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor.
- Perform such other duties as may be assigned.
Training components & learning elements:
- The Intern will gain on site experience in working in an international multicultural environment, within the United Nations system.
- The Intern will gain a better understanding of our clients work, as an inter governmental organization in the field of migration & sustainable development, including cooperation with the government partners.
- The Intern will acquire technical knowledge in M&E, development of diverse communications products & environmental & community stabilization based programming.
- The Intern will have the possibility to interact with the multi stakeholder constituents, as well as with the internal & external partners involved in organization & implementation of capacity building communications & knowledge sharing activities.

Key competencies |
- Bachelor’s degree in social science, business administration or any other appropriate field, communications, international relations, law, or a related field from an accredited academic institution.
- Demonstrated proficiency & knowledge of digital data collection & analysis.
- Experience working or internship for an international NGO or UN agency.
- Excellent & demonstrable analytical, communication & writing skills.
- Familiar with international humanitarian organizations, non governmental or governmental institutions / organizations in a multi cultural setting.
- Experience in operational activities both in humanitarian & development sector.
- Work experience in the region is an advantage.
- General knowledge of MS (ex. Word, Excel, Power Point, Teams, etc.).
- Digital literacy & demonstrated knowledge of information technology in Adobe Creative Cloud, InDesign, Illustrator & Photoshop is an advantage.
- Knowledge in the usage of office software packages (MS Word, Excel, etc.) & knowledge of spreadsheet & data analysis.
- For this position, fluency in English & Somali is required (oral & written); Working knowledge of other language is an advantage.
