Org. Setting and Reporting
This position is located in Centralized Warehousing Section (CWS) within United Nations Support Office in Somalia (UNSOS) and based in Mogadishu. The Logistics Officer reports directly to the Chief of the Centralized Warehousing section.
Responsibilities
Within delegated authority, the Logistics Officer, will be responsible for the following duties: Logistics: •Participates in or leads technical survey missions and verification missions to sector warehouses. •Plans, establishes and directs a fully integrated, warehouse operations center in accordance with existing UN directives; provides effective management and successful coordination of warehouse support activities of multi-national civilian, military and inter-departmental staff. •Plans and co-ordinates warehouse support to new, sustaining, expanding, contracting and liquidating operations in the mission. •Provides effective and timely planning, oversight, management and coordination of warehouse support operations. •Integrates and monitors the implementation of warehouse support plans in the mission. •Liaises between the Missions and Headquarters staff on warehouse matters and coordinates day-to-day support of warehouse operations. • Under the Chief of CWS, acts as Head of the Mission Logistics Base (MLB) in Mogadishu. Administration: •Develops operations process documentation for mission warehouse support. •Ensures that logistics requirements take account of gender-specific needs. •May coordinate and direct a team of staff and/or mentor and supervise the work of new/junior officers. •Officiates as Deputy Chief of Centralized Warehouse Section when required. •Performs other duties as directed/required.

Education
High school diploma or equivalent is required.
Job – Specific Qualification
Training with an accredited institution in the handling of dangerous goods and cargo is desirable.
Work Experience
A minimum of twelve (12) years of progressively responsible experience in land or air transport, logistics operations in military, commercial or international organizations, or related area is required. The minimum years are reduced to 7 years for candidates who possess a first level university degree. The last five years of experience directly involved in warehousing and inventory management is desirable Experience in the United Nations or a similar International Organisation with exposure to a post conflict environment is desirable
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the UN Secretariat. For this position, fluency in English (oral and written) is required.
Assessment
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise, which will be followed by a competency-based interview.
