Established in 1951, IOM is a Related Organization of the United Nations, and as the leading
UN agency in the field of migration, works closely with governmental, intergovernmental and
non-governmental partners. IOM is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for
the benefit of all. It does so by providing services and advice to governments and migrants.
Context:
Under the overall guidance of the Programme Officer (Monitoring, Evaluation and
Communications) and the direct supervision of the Information Management and Graphic
Assistant, the Information Management and Public Information Intern will be responsible for
the design of the Community Stabilization Information Management system, the design of
M&E dashboards and the production and dissemination of information products across the
unit’s portfolio. Tasks will include:
Core Functions / Responsibilities:
The core duties shall include the following:
1. Support in the development of an internal Information Management platform that will
track activities, indicators, budget and GPS coordinates of all actions undertaken by
the Community Stabilization Unit.
2. Support in monitoring and evaluation exercises for all community Stabilization active
projects. Compile all assessments undertaken, support in reporting and tracking of all
lessons learned, success stories and recommendations made across these projects.
3. Support in the development of data collection tools, databases and statistical reports
and maps.
4. Support in collating data and information received from the field into new knowledge
products in support of strategic priorities and support in the generation, sharing, and
using knowledge to support improved programming, and to provide objective and
evidence-based interpretations of data with pragmatic recommendations. Contribute
to the design and production of topic guides, training modules, working papers,
research reports, and data visualization media. Contribute to the development of the Community Stabilization data visualization dashboard.
5.Develop tools for monitoring – and strategy for implementation thereof – for the Community Stabilization program’s portfolio including 6 active projects, including thematically (tools and indicators to measure conflict resilience, stability and community cohesion) and operationally (tools for remote monitoring and evaluation).
6.Support participatory impact assessments, regular monitoring on performance, process and progress, real time evaluations, and – in collaboration with the program teams – lessons learned and provide recommendations to inform programme design and strategic decision making, including adapting ongoing programme approaches to increase impact.
7.In coordination with M&E and Programme teams, develop data-analysis trainings and other capacity-building tools for project staff and implementing partners.
8.In close coordination with Community Stabilization programme managers, assist in drafting interim final project reports for donors.
9.Organize and archive all relevant project documentation in the Community Stabilization Unit (CSU) SharePoint folder.
10.Perform such other duties as may be assigned.
Training Components and Learning Elements
•The Intern will gain on-site experience in working in an international multicultural environment, within the United Nations system.
•The Intern will gain a better understanding of IOM’s work, as an inter-governmental organization in the field of migration and sustainable development, incl. cooperation with the government partners and UN agencies.
•The Intern will acquire technical knowledge in reporting, development of diverse communications products and environmental and Community Stabilization -based programming.
•The Intern will be able to access relevant online training courses at the disposal of all IOM staff.
•The Intern will have the possibility to interact with the multi-stakeholder constituents, as well as with the internal and external partners involved in organization and implementation of capacity building communications and knowledge sharing activities.
Required
Education Qualifications
•University degree or/and master’s degree in data analysis, Information Management, Economics, Monitoring and Evaluation, International Development, or a related field from an accredited academic institution
Experience
•Experience in data analysis and databases, monitoring, evaluation, accountability and learning, including knowledge of remote implementation;
•Experience in graphic design, external communication, liaison or production of information products;
•Experience producing M&E reports including baselines, endlines, FGD reports, post intervention monitoring
•Experience working for an International NGO or UN agency;
•Experience with international humanitarian organizations, non-governmental or governmental institutions/organizations in a multi-cultural setting;
Skills
•General knowledge of MS (ex. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, etc.)
•Digital literacy and demonstrated knowledge of information technology software (ESRI-ARCGIS, STATA, SPSS, R, PowerBI) in Adobe Creative Cloud: InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop is an advantage.
Languages.
•For this Position, fluency in English is required (oral and written); Working knowledge of Somali is an advantage.
