SOS Children’s Villages in Somaliland is part of SOS Children’s Villages International, the umbrella organization to which all SOS Children’s Villages, including SOS Children’s Villages in Somaliland Association, are affiliated. SOS Children’s Villages is committed to the welfare of children who lost parental care or are at risk of losing parental care – often ensuring that children grow up in a loving family environment and strengthening families and communities as a preventive measure in the fight against child abandonment and social neglect and upholds child protection policy as part of their commitment to the protection of children and youth from abuse.

SOS Children’s Village International launched the Digital Village project in 2018 and has implemented it throughout member associations around the world with the aim of integrating technology into children’s and families’ everyday lives, both in alternative care and family strengthening. To adopt and implement the international and regional strategy of ICT4D, SOS Children’s Village in Somaliland has launched a small ICT lab in the village and three community Digital hubs in the family strengthening program targeting communities in Hargeisa and Berbera in 2019, 2022 and 2023, respectively.

In order to promote technology literacy among children, young people and the community, SOS Children’s Villages in Somaliland is implementing a Digital Community Hub in Hargeisa. The proposed Digital Community Hub aims at closing the digital divide by providing children, young people, and caregivers in SOS Family-like Care, Family Strengthening as well as their surrounding communities with access to technology and adequate digital literacy skills to support their education, development needs and career prospects. Furthermore, the project provides training for participants on cyber abuse and cyber security issues to ensure their safety online.

SOS Children’s Villages Somaliland is seeking to recruit a tutor for the Community Digital Hub center who will work at the Center in Hargeisa. The tutor is expected to manage the center and contribute to the overall implementation of the activities of the Center by teaching students, counseling, and conducting other social development activities for the center.

Key duties include:

The tutor will have the following key responsibilities

  • Under the management of the Center Board, design, plan, and implement activities that are related to center activities.
  • Develop a comprehensive ICT curriculum that includes basic and advanced levels.
  • Contribute to the preparation of annual, quarterly and monthly action plans and reports, plan assessments, monitoring, review and evaluation activities of the Digital hub
  • Organize and facilitate training workshops and compiling reports.
  • Keeps updated data and information from the participants benefiting from the hub
  • Coach target youth to define their further ICT skill training needs, employment prospects business idea development opportunities and work with the youth as individuals, and sometimes as groups, to assist them in making future career decisions related to digital.
  • Work out for Youth ICT graduate internship attachment to the companies after graduation and in the final months of the training.
  • Monitor, evaluate and ensure that the hub activities are consistent with plans and budget lines.
  • Conduct individual and group coaching sessions for youth during trainings and internships.
  • Ensure timely procurement, development and distribution of training modules and training materials.
  • Arrange inspiring talk sessions for young people benefiting from the hub.
  • Prepare periodic and progress reports as appropriate (Monthly report)
  • Ensure reporting of all concerns regarding actual or potential child abuse, mistreatment or any other violation of the Child Protection Policy according to our reporting and responding system.
  • Promotes SOS CV child protection policy through raising awareness to all our beneficiaries and partners.

    • Degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant subject area (ICT)
    • Minimum of 2-3 years relevant work experience in youth programmes, including Digital Skills, guidance and counseling, entrepreneurship skills and social business management.
    • Experience in implementing youth programme at a managerial level
    • Excellent command of the main working local language as well as the general country language including both written and verbal.
    • Awareness and understanding of social development issues, such as the local and national OVC situation, gender, education, health, NDP3, and SDGs
    • Excellent counselling skills
    • Good leadership skills
    • Good reporting skills
    • Good communication and interpersonal skills
