PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

Community Protection Monitors (GBV)- is responsible to lead all community awareness activities and work to strengthen community-based protection systems to mitigate and prevent occurrence of GBV. He/she will work closely with community key stakeholder to increase awareness about GBV and engage community leaders and to closely work with the protection sector for guidance and support. The Community protection monitor (GBV) is a community based position and the holder is expected to have unlimited interaction and access to persons of concern in project targeted locations.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct information and awareness sessions with women and girls in the community to disseminate information about available services and key protection concerns.
  • Maintain regular contact with community focal points and community Health workers to ensure a constant flow of information and feedback.
  • Identify and engage key stakeholders on gender-based violence.
  • Conduct regular update service mapping.
  • Ensure all work with clients are confidential and that ethical practices are observed.
  • Provide comprehensive counselling to learners who experience or are exposed to Sexual-Gender Based Violence (SGBV).
  • Facilitate client referral and linkage to further services as appropriate while keeping the data confidentiality of the GBV survivors
  • Ensure Core Humanitarian Standards are mainstreamed in the day to day project implementation.
  • Prepare and submit periodic (daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, semi-annually and annual) reports of activities, evaluations, recommendations and action plans.
  • Assist with any other related activities as deemed necessary by the line manager.

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Diploma in Social Science /Counselling Psychology or a related field.
  • Proven experience of minimum 1 years working with humanitarian and development programme or other similar institutions.
  • An impeccable professional standard of ethics as well as the willingness and ability to implement accountability activities within the LWF World Service essential.
  • The candidate should be well versed with the local context

COMPETENCIES

  • Excellent computer skills in word processing, spreadsheets, use of internet and email
  • Excellent analytical, facilitation and documentation experience with humanitarian programmes.
  • Excellent communication skills including influencing negotiation and pragmatism.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; the ability to liaise with a variety of people successfully and effectively in a multicultural set up.
  • Ability to work independently with proven hands-on expertise in case management, gender sensitivity, child protection and safeguarding.
  • Fluent in Somali language.
