TERMS OF REFERENCE FOR ACCOUNT ASSISTANT

  1. POSITION SUMMARY

Position Title: Account Assistant

Department: Finance

Reports To: Finance Officer

Location: Mogadishu, Somalia

  1. OBJECTIVE

The Account Assistant will provide financial and administrative assistance, ensuring high quality, accuracy and effective execution of financial services, processes, and transparent utilization of financial resources.

  1. INTRODUCTION

Established in 1994, Social-Life and Agricultural Development Organization (SADO) is a non-partisan non-governmental, not for profit organization. With its headquarters in Mogadishu, Somalia, SADO has operational presence and experience in South Central Somalia. The organization has ambitions to expand into the greater East-African region.

SADO pursues a rights-based approach grounded on the belief that people are entitled to basic conditions of living with dignity and access to opportunity and dignity, as a basis of fulfilling their human potential. SADO therefore seeks to stimulate sustainable developmental change amongst vulnerable communities living in the Horn of Africa region. SADO’s mandate and core business is facilitating community development. These ambitions are realized through (core strategies of) knowledge transfer, influencing, brokering linkages, and facilitating/ implementing integrated people centered humanitarian and development programs. The main developmental approach of SADO is enabling the communities find solutions to their socio-economic challenges.

SADO has an impressive track record and experience in implementing community anchored programs in Peace and Governance; Education; Livelihoods and Food Security; Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH). Additionally, human rights, gender and environment have over time been addressed by SADO as crosscutting issues. The main target groups of SADO include vulnerable and marginalized pastoralists (individuals, families, groups, and communities). SADO has a well-defined and functional internal organizational structure. SADO works through several well resourced (staff, infrastructure, equipment) field offices. A diverse and competent Board of Directors (BOD) offers policy and strategic guidance, leadership, and oversight.

  1. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Financial Record keeping
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records, including accounts payable and receivable, general ledger entries, and bank reconciliations.
  • Invoice Processing
  • Assist in processing invoices, ensuring proper coding, documentation, and timely payments.
  • Expense Management
  • Help manage employee expense reports, verifying receipts, and ensuring compliance with company policies.
  • Financial Reporting
  • Assist in the preparation of financial reports, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
  • Budgeting and Forecasting
  • Support the budgeting process by collecting and organizing relevant financial data and assisting in the preparation of financial projections.
  • Auditing and Compliance
  • Assist in internal and external audits, providing necessary documentation and ensuring compliance with financial regulations and company policies.
  • Data Analysis
  • Assist in analysing financial data and identifying trends or issues, providing relevant insights to support decision-making.
  • Administrative Support
  • Provide general administrative support to the accounting department, including filing, organizing documents, and responding to inquiries.
  • Software and System Utilization
  • Utilize accounting software and systems effectively to streamline processes and improve efficiency.

  • Collaborate with other team members and departments to ensure effective communication and coordination of financial activities.

    1. SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
    • College Diploma in Accounting/Business Administration with a strong bias in accounting
    • Professional certification as chartered accountant (CA) or Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Chartered Institute of Management Accountants CIMA), or Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) will be a distinct advantage.
    • At least three years of relevant professional work experience.
    1. SKILLS
    • Previous experience working with National NGO’s will be an advantage.
    • Strong interpersonal and intercultural skills with proven ability to work effectively and harmoniously with a team of colleagues.
    • Mature individual, able to work independently, under pressure, able to maintain accuracy, paying attention to details, meeting deadlines, and working with minimal supervision.
    • Demonstrated ability to maintain integrity in performing responsibilities assigned.
    1. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

    The position will be based in Mogadishu, Somalia. The initial period of appointment will be on probation for three (3) months. The successful candidate will be expected to commence no later than 1st September 2023.
